– Marketplace — This might just cause more people to start rethinking their use of petrol-based products. A 20% increase isn’t going to go over well with our current economy.

Twitter Nonsense
This is why centralised services are terrible ideas. Twitter has been up and down all week, and now it’s down because of a database failure. These guys are on thin ice.  Furthermore, why aren’t we running on a decentralised version of Twitter? Something like OpenID, where I run my Twit-daemon on my server, and we have aggregators (Bloglines/gReader) that let you follow friends....

No more volunteers on the phone at Wisconsin... →
I’ve wondered about this ever since I was little kid, when I would go up to the PBS station in Houston to volunteer. How they could let random volunteers into the room and take down all the personal details and credit card information which could easily be copied and stolen.

Disaster fatigue leads to drop in giving →
Americans are becoming immune to the news of disasters, and feeling less charitable. Or so this article claims. I’d imagine it has more to do with the fact that it’s far away, China has more than enough money, both China and Myanmar aren’t exactly opening their doors for US-based aid to get in, and finally, the tough economic times are helping. I doubt that the next disaster that...

YouTube debates in New Orleans →
It’s good to hear that New Orleans was selected as the location for a YouTube Presidential debate in September, especially after it was passed up in the primaries. However, I must say that the concept of YouTube debates is rather odd. I guess the TV empowered citizens to see the candidates, instead of just hearing them. Now YouTube lets us talk to them?
