Norman Borlaug has died, the man responsible for GMF and saving more than 245m people worldwide thanks to the improved crop yields.
“Man can and must prevent the tragedy of famine in the future instead of merely trying with pious regret to salvage the human wreckage of the famine, as he has so often done in the past.” —Norman Borlaug
Norman Borlaug died two days ago. Chances are you’ve never heard of him. If you have, it was probably in the episode of Penn & Teller’s Bullshit where they dubbed him the Greatest Human Being That Ever Lived. No, seriously - look at Mr. Borlaug’s wikipedia entry:
Borlaug was one of only five people to have won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal.
Borlaug’s discoveries have been estimated to have saved over 245 million lives worldwide.
Unrecognized by the public in his life, he deserves to be remembered in his death.
