This is why centralised services are terrible ideas. Twitter has been up and down all week, and now it’s down because of a database failure. These guys are on thin ice.
Furthermore, why aren’t we running on a decentralised version of Twitter? Something like OpenID, where I run my Twit-daemon on my server, and we have aggregators (Bloglines/gReader) that let you follow friends. Twitter could still exist (along with Pownce, et al) as an easy and quick service (like Yahoo’s OpenID service). It’s about time someone jumped on this.
